What to Do for First Time Uganda Car Rental Booking?
When you are going to hire a car in Uganda from a rental company, there are very many factors and steps you have to take before getting into the deal. Many people make a huge mistake of committing to a car rental provider at first sight because of the attractive services and pricing provided. All you need to do is relax and take your time and put into consideration of every factor and step stipulated to you below.
First thing is to find out whether the car will suit your needs of traveling. If you are traveling with a group of 5-8 a minibus commonly known as the safari van will be the perfect match. And for a lone or two travelers a compact vehicle is sufficing. This normally helps you to minimize expenses since it would be irrational for a traveler to rent minibus if they are going to travel only two people.
Another thing to do is take your time looking for the best car provider. It would be suicide if you decide to make business with the first provider you land on at the internet. There are always other providers that may have better and cheap car hire services in Uganda. go shopping on the internet, you never know you might land on the best car rental deal ever.
Inquire about what the car rental package really comprises of, in particular the price quotation. Some car rental companies offer attractive pricing for their rentals but they are flat in such a way that they don’t include other extra charges that you may have to pay aside from the usual quotation.
You should always make an effort and book in advance. Rush hour booking is always expensive as car rental companies take advantage of your desperation of wanting to rent a car urgently. When you book in advance, there is always room to negotiate on the pricing of the services. Also some companies give some discounts to their clients who book earlier. Sometimes even the car you may need at that time may not be available when you do booking at the last hour and may end up settling for another offer which you may actually not want.
Always look for discounts from the car providers. Most of the rates displayed on the websites are not the reserved prices henceforth put in a shift to solicit for a reduction in price as you inquire from the reservation. In addition, there are always promotion seasons in the tours and travel industry take advantage to book in that time and embrace yourself with a discounted car rental rate. This makes you save some money that can be used on other things on the trip.
You should also ask the car rental company to explain to you their insurance policy and the road assistance. Find out if the company has a comprehensive insurance that covers all the damages that may happen to the car while traveling. This makes you get an insight which damages you are liable to you. It also renders you a peace of mind while on the road as you know that you’re safe and protected from liabilities.
Lastly confirm your booking before you travel. This will minimize the risk of confusion of the dates and time you are going to take up the car hire services.

There are very many kinds of vehicles provided for Self Drive safaris in Uganda by tour operators but the rooftop tent vehicle offers a peculiar experience. The rooftop tent vehicle is a new invention on the Uganda Self Drive scene but it is now the most sought after rental car by the travellers interested in self guided safaris. The rooftop tent vehicle is usually a Land cruiser jeep with a camping tent on top of it tied up. A single tent is put on the small Land cruisers (prados) and one or two can be tied on the big land cruisers (V8, VX and GX). Many self drive travellers have turned to rooftop tent vehicles as their best option and below is why;
Adventurous
A roof tent vehicle is for camping in the wild. it will make you get out of your comfort zone of sleeping in the customary places like lodges and hotel and sleep in the jungles under the tent at the top of the car. You are able to enjoy the moon light, the night bliss and the sounds of the jungle at night – not forgetting the sunsets and sunrises that are often magical in any African jungle. More to that nocturnal animals like the bush babies, wild cats and leopards are likely to be at your sight while camping in the wild. This is something of out of your world. It gets better when you are able to take pictures of these animals and also yourself in the wild at night. The adventure is very fulfilling and also makes your feel that you have conquered your fears.
Cheaper
A roof tent vehicle on a Self Drive in Uganda enables the traveller save some money as he/she is able to dodge the accommodation fees for the lodges or hotel which is replaced by the roof top tent. We all yearn for attention and what brings attention is something unique and trailblazing. A rooftop tent vehicle is a new addition to the self drive safaris in Uganda. Not so many people have tried but many people seek to try. Therefore, travellers go for roof tent vehicle on a self drive safaris to be the trendsetters and hence get the attention. Safe

With the roof tent camping, the traveller sleeps on top of the vehicle which is less risky compared to the ground camping where you are prone to being attacked by wild animals in the jungle. The sense of feeling secure and safe is very paramount in having a wonderful and exciting safari experience.
Convenient
The roof tent vehicle on a Uganda self drive safari offers an all-inclusive experience. With the roof top tent package everything you need on the trip is at your feet because it comes with the transport means, the 4×4 car, accommodation in the form of a camping tent and also the cooking equipment are provided, the meals are all sorted. The convenience also continues with the fact that you can as well go to a restaurant in case you feel like not preparing your own dinner, and also choose to sleep in a comfort of a hotel bed in case you feel like you have had enough of the nights out on top of the car.
Read MoreQuick Guide to Planning Uganda Safaris
When it comes to Uganda holidays, a striking feature that is most often seen in the areas near the rain forests is the use of terraced agriculture, which rings the hills in thousands of shades of green. Beginning at the main point of arrival in Entebbe, most safaris will head west to the broad belt of national parks that form the western border.
Due to the fact that the country is situated right on the meeting point of the eastern savannah and western jungle ecosystems, Uganda has excellent terrain for a wide variety of safaris, from traditional game drives through golden grassland seeking lion or elephant to strapping on your hiking boots and trekking through lush rain forest. The birding is superlative, with the variation in habitat attracting a vast array of species, including the crowning glory of the shoebill, a highly sought-after sight for the true birder. The traditional Big Five parks of Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls, do not yet match the game densities of their contemporaries to the east. That said, the game viewing is still very much alive and well and the parks boast a mere fraction of the tourist numbers that may dilutes the experience for those visiting the more developed destinations. A sighting of lion, elephant or leopard here is a moment to treasure and is seldom shared with other vehicles and we believe in clients or customs desires in traveling to all the tourist attraction in the national game park.
Who Are Uganda Safaris for?
Uganda safaris are for all travelers! We provide tour services to all our customers at the low price. Whether you are looking to guided safari or a self drive in Uganda, there are options that will suit you.
Uganda is a dream destination that attracts travelers interested in primate safaris. Chimpanzees roam in numbers in Kibale and Queen Elizabeth National Park, as do colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, de Brazza monkeys and a host of other species. The last mountain gorillas are carefully protected in the Impenetrable Forest of Bwindi. There is absolutely no exaggeration in gorilla trekking as life-altering. The destination is just as much sought after by birders, as Uganda boasts over a thousand species among its varied habitats. A keen birder can hope to encounter the handsome francolin, dwarf honeyguide and purple-breasted sunbird, among many other species that are very difficult to see anywhere else. And, like the gorilla, there is the highlight of seeing the unforgettable shoebill. Uganda outshines all other safari destinations in these two areas, but, in addition, it remains a superb destination for traditional safari by vehicle or by boat, thanks to its lush habitats and variety of species. For those in search of something fresh and vibrant, Uganda is the perfect choice we shall take you through all our national game parks in Uganda.
How long to stay?
The length of a typical Uganda safari will vary. Those seeking to track gorillas will fly into Entebbe and often overnight on the shores of Lake Victoria before flying out to the south western parks the following morning. Experts recommend tracking the gorillas twice, as the first time is often a little overwhelming and guests don’t take it all in. After the gorilla experience, visitors usually fly back to Entebbe to continue their safari elsewhere or to head out onto the Nature Adventure circuit with visits to Kibale, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls. Further north, at the very tip of the country, travellers can explore the untouched open spaces of lesser-known parks like Kidepo. On average, however, stays range between four to six days.
When should I go?
Uganda is a good year-round destination, but the rainy seasons (March to May and November to December) can make logistics a little tricky. Rain also increases the difficulty of tracking in Bwindi, Mgahinga and Kibale, rendering the mountain slopes muddy. Uganda has a major advantage in terms of temperature although its location is equatorial, the high altitude eases the heat, meaning that the weather remains temperate all year round. The high season for in line with other East African destinations, which means during the winter months in the southern hemisphere, from January to December every year.
if you’ve ever wanted to sit with mountain gorillas in their natural rainforest habitat then a Nature Adventure will deliver on your expectations. Boasting a 90% success rate at finding habituated gorilla family groups in the extraordinary Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, gorilla trekking in Uganda has become one of Africa’s most powerful wildlife experiences and such is its success that the gorilla population is actually increasing.
But don’t think that Nature Adventure is only about gorillas in rainforests: this landlocked East African country is home to a range of diverse national parks and is a strong contender for one of the world’s best bird watching destinations. Head for Murchison Falls or Queen Elizabeth National Park for classic big game viewing, chimpanzee trekking and river cruises but we also provide accommodation to our clients or customers at low prices.
Kibale, in southern Uganda, forms a massive wildlife corridor with Queen Elizabeth National Park that is used by migrating elephants in search of water. A mixture of tropical rainforest, swamp and grasslands, Kibale supports Africa’s biggest population of chimpanzees as well as at least a dozen other primate species. It is a top destination for those wanting to trek primates, including gorillas, and with over 320 recorded bird species, is also a haven for twitchers.
A green, hilly and elevated country with many lakes and mountains, Uganda’s appeal lies in its simplicity. Infrastructure is limited but growing and there is now a good range of safari accommodation and city-based hotels. Ideal for seasoned safari-goers, bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts, Uganda’s star is on the rise – combine it with Kenya or Tanzania for a holistic East African safari experience.

Read MoreGorilla Trekking Vs Chimpanzee Tracking in Uganda
In Uganda, gorilla trekking is done in two destinations namely: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park. The mentioned two gorilla parks are situated in western Uganda and can be reached in a duration between 7-9 hours drive. You can easily link the two parks and basing on your budget, you can decide to encounter mountain gorillas in both locations.
On the other hand, Uganda offers chimpanzee trekking in five destinations namely: Kibale National Park, Budongo Forest (Murchison Falls National Park), Toro- Semuliki Game reserve, Kalinzu Forest and Kyambura Gorge (Queen Elizabeth National Park).
As far as primate trekking is concerned, gorilla trekking is more organized that chimpanzee trekking in the amazing tropical rain forests. Its because, Gorillas form and lives in families unlike chimpanzees which lives in communities but separates during day to avoid high competition for food. To back up my statement, look at the variation in prices: the highest amount of Chimpanzee trekking permit is US$200 compared to US$700 for Gorilla trekking.
Gorilla trekking receives more attendants compared to chimpanzee trekking. Amidst high cost of Gorilla trekking, statistics shows more sales than chimpanzee trekking per annum.
In terms of convenience, chimpanzees are more convenient than gorillas for the following reasons:
- Uganda keeps captive chimpanzees in Uganda Wildlife Education centre (Former Entebbe Zoo) and at Ngamba Island. For guest who can endure the hustling of walking in the jungle to search for chimpanzees can engage chimpanzees up close while in captivity. On the other hand, strong and fitter guests can move to find chimpanzees in any of the five destinations if not all.
- In terms of transport, most of the Uganda chimpanzee destinations are easily reached: Budongo Forest can be reached between 4-5hours drive, Kibale National park between 5-6hrs drive, Kyambura Gorge and Kalinzu forest between 6-7hrs drive.
- Chimpanzee trekking competition is a bit lower than that of gorilla trekking. In other words, you can easily get chimpanzee trekking permit than Gorilla pass.
- Chimpanzee trekking is done in two shifts: Morning and afternoon shift especially in Kibale National Park. Gorilla trekking has only morning shift and more restrictions are set.
Mountain Gorillas are among the world’s rare primates compared to chimpanzees. Statistics shows that mountain gorillas are found only in Virunga region and Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Good news is that, Uganda has the majority and being rare primates, the country offers a unique gorilla safari experience that is inexpensive and memorable to travelers looking for primate safaris.
A maximum of eight people is allowed to meet each gorilla group in Uganda but chimpanzee trekking permits six people.
Gorilla trekking exercise is highly challenging compared to chimpanzee trekking. The rangers recommend a porter for each trekker. Porters carry guests’ luggage and sometimes carry tourists in case of failure to finish the exercise.
Gorilla habituation is done in Rushaga Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National park while Chimpanzee Habituation in Kibale National park. Primate habituation is aiming at making them familiar to human hence facilitating primate tracking. In conclusion, both chimpanzee and Gorilla treks are memorable and one should complement another.

The fact that there are many car rental companies that offer nearly the same services, one needs to take note that every company has its own price tag. Before you think of hiring a car in any car rental agency, you need to first look at the prices. Most importantly, you need to look at different companies and see what their prices then make comparisons to see which one offers competitive rates with best offers.
This becomes one major critical factor to consider when searching for that best car for your road trip. Take your time and make the best and sound decisions, first we advise you to carry out a search on most of the car rental companies and this is just to help you make comparisons on their prices and see which one offers the best competitive prices within your travel means and needs. You really need to be very careful on this factor. Others can be cheaper or expensive but consider which offers do they have. Most of the car rental companies have web sites that you visit to see which one has the best prices with other offers. The one with the best price and offers can be the best for you to book with.
Do not be on rush
Uganda and Rwanda have several car rental companies distributed throughout the country and have any kind of car at different cost and it is for this reason that we encourage you to look at different choices available prior confirming with that company you intend to deal with. A recognized car rental company has a web site and perhaps reviews and contacts that once you visit, you are able to go through them or simply contact them directly. It is important that look through different companies and see which one has the best rates and offers.
Choose the right car
Prior making any inquiry, know how many people are traveling with depending on which safari you intend to embark on. If it is a large group trip then a small car rental may not of any use or if you are two there is no need for you to get a coaster and yet there are good sizes that can accommodate small groups. Note that each car comes with its price and your choice matters! For those of you who are planning to go as a couple or a group of 4 people, a salon car can be the best option and for larger groups, a coast or minivan can be ideal.
Opt for a self-drive
While most people go for guided tours, you can do it otherwise by opting for self-drive. With self-drives, you have a chance to have your privacy and it is very flexible and pocket friendly. Most importantly, self-drive cars come with GPS-Global Positioning System to help you when it comes to directions.

Uganda as a beautiful country is naturally endowed with a lot of natural resources which are used by the local communities to earn a living. The practice of specializing in making hand crafts has been going on for ages. These crafts are not only made to mint money but they are made as a form of self expression. The crafts reflect about the history, environment, beliefs and culture of Uganda. From a particular region, you will find that they are different natural resources which will determine the type of crafts made.
For instance the Baganda specialize in making bark cloth which is made from a particular tree specie. Referred to as Olubugo in the local language, it is a stiff orange fabric material that is used to make bags, shirts, hats to mention but a few.
Other crafts include woven baskets and mats which are an essential in a local homestead. They are usually woven into intricate patterns to display a high level of skill. Mats are used to decorate the home or used as a seat during meal and story time.
Baskets are beautifully crafted bowls which are made from reeds and bamboo. Large baskets keep millet bread from going cold while the smaller ones are filled with snacks like groundnuts and roasted maize seeds to serve the visitor as a sign that they are welcome in the host’s home.
Spoons, bowls, stools and mingling sticks are artfully carved out of wood. The outcome is at times so breathtaking that instead of being put to use, they are decorated. They are produced out of the best wood like mahogany and ebony and then polished to give it a spotless look.
