The Gaddaffi National Mosque also known as Old Kampala Mosque is located on the top of the Old Kampala Hill near the preserved site where Captain Fredrick Lugard had built hist fort. The area is also the seat of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, an umbrella body that unites all muslims in the country. The original plan of this mosque was designed during the era of the late Idi Amin Dada but stalled due to lack of funds until 2003 when Col Muammar Gadaffi of Libya (RIP) stepped in to fund the whole project.
This mason is a true definition of beauty and greatness as it’s inner part is well polished and spotlessly clean. The stainless glass on it’s ceiling is made of green, yellow and blue colors which help to bring a sense of holiness and peace in the place.
It’s court yard is enormous, neat and well maintained with a vast parking space.
